tedLocal volunteer RNLI presenter Edward “Ted” Watson was both surprised and pleased to be the recipient of Rhyl lifeboat crew’s “David Benjamin Jones” shield for outstanding service to the Rhyl station, at the crew’s annual dinner, held at Rhuddlan Golf Club on 5th March 2011.The award was designed for the person who, in the crew’s opinion, made the most significant progress in highlighting the work done by the RNLI, and Rhyl crew in particular, over the last year. The award was designed in memory of David Jones, who sadly died aged 20 when a long RNLI career as a crew member at Rhyl was tragically cut short. Ted was presented with the shield and a small personal copy by Peter Robinson, the previous coxswain at Rhyl. Ted carries out numerous tasks to further the RNLI’s message, at various meetings and events throughout North Wales and the Marches. He is responsible for transporting a publicity inshore lifeboat to all events and is a familiar face all over the North Wales area, and as part of this work, manages to raise many thousands of pounds for the charity
